Fourteen of the best gallopers and stayers will contest the Doomben Cup this Saturday at Doomben racecourse

The 2013 Doomben Cup will be contested by fourteen horses this Saturday at Doomben Racecourse
Fourteen runners are set to contest the 2013 renewal of The Doomben Cup on Saturday. Some of the best middle distance stayers and gallopers will battle it out to be the next horse on the roll of honour after 2012 winner Mawingo.

A close second on that occasion was 2012 Brisbane Cup winner Lights of Heaven who warmed up in style over the slightly shorter distance of 1,800 Metres in the Hollindale Stakes two weeks ago. Available at 3.80 with IAS Bet, the Peter Moody trained five-year-old is primed for another good run but may find some resistance from Foreteller.

Chris Waller also has Danleigh (34.00) and Beaten Up (9.00) entered for the 2020 meter test, but Foreteller makes the most appeal of the three having finished just half a length shy of Lights of Heaven at Gold Coast and is available at 4.00.

Elsewhere Lamasery has a length to gain on the market leaders on Hollindale running and at 8.50 is an interesting prospect along with St Leger scorer Hippopus who could benefit from a shorter trip and an extra week’s rest at 9.00.

Peter Moody’s other entrant Manighar ran well in third here last year and can be backed at 9.00 but the 2012 BMW winner hasn’t had his head in front for eight races since that Rosehill success and may find one or two of these too strong.
