Eight months after Melbourne Victory knocked Adelaide United out of last year’s finals series, the arch-rivals once against face off with both teams in the thick of the title action. Victory are second and Adelaide fourth after six games of the 2018-19 A-League season, and their Saturday night fixture at Marvel Stadium is the pick of this weekend’s games.

Melbourne Strong Favourites to Secure A-League Victory

Victory are the form team in the A-League, having won four games on the trot include a 4-0 thrashing of Western Sydney Wanderers last week. Adelaide won 2-1 at home against Brisbane Roar last week, but Victory’s strong form has them going in 1.91 favourites at Palmerbet.

Given the 10 goals they’ve scored in their last three outings, we like the 2.75 odds being offered by Neds on Victory scoring in both halves. Adelaide have scored six goals from their two away matches this season – albeit against cellar-dwellers Central Coast Mariners and Wellington Phoenix – but nonetheless there’s a good chance these teams pay out on Neds’ offer of 1.62 for both teams to score.

Plenty of Other A-League Betting Action

On Friday night, Wanderers look to bounce back from last week’s humiliating loss to Victory when they host the bottom-placed Mariners. Wanderers have won the last two matches between these two teams, but in a strange twist they’re winless from their last three home encounters with the Mariners. Western Sydney might be vulnerable here, providing an opportunity for punters to take a double chance bet on Central Coast Mariners or draw at bet365 for 2.37.

On Saturday, Sydney FC are an almost unbackable favourites in their home fixture against Wellington Phoenix. Sydney have scored in every game this year and Phoenix have only held one clean sheet while scoring just four times themselves. We like the 2.45 betting odds Pointsbet are offering on Sydney winning to nil.

Ladder-leaders Perth Glory stumbled to a 1-1 draw away to Wellington last week, and they’ll need all the recovery time they can get from the long journey home before facing Melbourne City. Topbetta is offering 2.24 for Glory to win 1.80 on 3 goals or more, which is good value considering Glory are averaging 2.0 goals per match to 1.17, and City are averaging 1.33 to 1.17.

On Sunday, Newcastle Jets play Brisbane Roar. With Newcastle yet to win at home and Brisbane yet to win away, anything could happen here. If you’re looking to bet on a draw, this might be the game, and Madbookie are offering 3.45.
