Argentina host Australia in the final game of the Rugby Championship 2018 at the Estadio Padre Ernesto Martearena in Salta on Saturday evening.

It’s a hugely significant game for the Wallabies, who will be desperate to make amends for their 23-19 loss to Argentina on the Gold Coast three weeks ago.  The other goal that victory would achieve is in avoiding their first Rugby Championship wooden spoon and worst-ever southern hemisphere tournament performance.

Their cause isn’t helped on several fronts though.  The Wallabies’ 23-12 loss to the Springboks in Port Elizabeth last Sunday was their eighth loss in their last 10 Tests.  This is also a highly competitive and improving Argentinian team, who are playing some attractive rugby. Then there’s the fact that they will be playing 1152 metres above sea level in Salta, which will naturally present challenges.  Failure in Salta could leave Wallabies coach Michael Cheika and his coaching staff in an untenable position.

Argentina v Australia Team News

Coach Mario Ledesma has recalled winger Ramiro Moyano after a rib complaint ruled him out of the 35-17 loss to New Zealand last week.  Moyano returns as a replacement for Bautista Delguy, who will be out for three weeks with a shoulder injury. Ledesma also included blindside flanker Santiago Grondona in place of the injured Tomas Lezana and winger Manuel Montero for Matias Osadczuk.

The loss at home to the All Blacks was hardly unexpected, but it speaks volumes as to how far Los Pumas have come that they were somewhat disappointed at the result.

Meanwhile, Australia’s first-choice hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau has been replaced in the squad by Tolu Latu after the latter suffered a hamstring injury training in South Africa.

Winger Marika Koroibete should be cleared to play Los Pumas, despite having to be replaced after he failed a head injury assessment after suffering a blow to the head in the lead up to Will Genia’s first half try in Port Elizabeth against South Africa.

Argentina v Australia Betting Odds & Tip

In terms of the betting, Argentina are favourites on the ‘Match Result’ market at 1.83 with TopBetta*, the Wallabies are 2.05 with bet365* while the draw is 23.00 with Unibet.

The self-belief in the Argentinean camp and the fact the game is played at altitude could prove decisive here.
