Brisbane Broncos take on the Parramatta Eels at the Suncorp Stadium on Thursday evening.

Mid-table Broncos will fancy their chances of climbing a few places against an Eels team that currently prop up the Premiership, having registered just two wins from their 11 NRL games to date.

Last weekend the Broncos had a 28-22 win at home to the Sydney Roosters, while the Eels went down 24-14 at home to the New Zealand Warriors.

Brisbane Broncos v Parramatta Eels Team News

Korbin Sims is set to miss out for the Broncos after going off with concussion late in the win over the Roosters, while Payne Haas is facing a lengthy lay-off with a shoulder injury and Jack Bird (sternum) is facing three weeks out.  Kotoni Staggs came off the bench to make his NRL debut for the Broncos against the Roosters.

Jordan Kahu is close to returning from his broken jaw, while Gehamat Shibasaki and George Fai could both feature against the Eels after being late omissions last week.

The Eels’ problems were compounded by a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament injury to Beau Scott in last week’s defeat to the Warriors.  On the plus side, Jarryd Hayne, Nathan Brown and Kane Evans are close to returning from injury, but Tim Mannah is at least another week away.

Kenny Edwards has left the club after the management were made aware of his traffic offences last week.

Eels’ coach Brad Arthur could now start to go with a youth policy with next season on mind, with Marata Niukore making his debut in the number 17 jersey against the Warriors and playmaker Jaeman Salmon expected to be promoted to first grade rugby soon.

Broncos v Eels Betting Odds & Tip

The teams met twice in quick succession last season, with the Eels winning both times. The first game was at the ANZ Stadium in Game Week 21 and resulted in a 28-14 victory then, just four weeks later in Game Week 25, they won 52-34 at the Suncorp Stadium.

The Broncos are clear favourites at 8/15 (1.52) with Unibet, with the Eels a 33/20 (2.65) shot with bet365 and the draw is offered at 22/1 (23.00) with Centrebet.

Backing the Broncos minus 6 points on the Handicap -6 at 19/20 (1.95) with bet365 could provide better value bet though.
