Highlighting the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival this weekend is the 2013 Running of The Stradbroke Handicap taking place at 1pm Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Buffering has ran 2nd and 4th previously in the Stradbroke Handicap and will carry a top weight of 58kg for Saturday’s 1400m test. The Rob Heathcote trained five year-old has now placed at the top level on no less than eight occasions following his third in the Doomben 10,000 and can be backed at 12.00 with Sportingbet.
Three-year-old winner of the Doomben 10,000 Epaulette will carry 56kg, making odds of 6.50 with the same firm seem a little short as Peter Snowdon’s charge will have to break a modern day weight carrying record if he is to score for the third time in Group One company.
BTC Cup winner Your Song is available at 6.00 and makes a little more appeal carrying 54kg, while Better Than Ready will carry 52.5kg and can be backed at the same price.
Queensland Guineas winner Sizzling currently leads the betting at 4.40, but it’s worth noting that in the past 10 years, 2 of 10 Stradbroke Handicap Favourites have won while 5 have failed to place and 12 Stradbroke Handicap winners have won at double figure odds since 1983.
Of the outsiders Lord Mayor’s Cup winner Solzhenitsyn may be worth a punt at 16.00 while Doomben 10,000 fourth Spirit of Boom can be backed at 35.00.
