Western Sydney Wanderers meet Brisbane Roar at the ANZ Stadium on Saturday evening in a game that will have a major bearing as to which club secures 6th spot in the table and therefore claims the final place in the Elimination finals.

As things stand Roar are one place and two points above Wanderers (with Perth Glory a further point back) and, with just one game apiece left after this meeting, the outcome of this game could prove decisive.

Wanderers went down to a 3-1 defeat at Melbourne Victory last weekend and also had veteran central defender Michael Thwaite dismissed before the interval for two yellow card offences.  It’s now just one win and five points in six matches for the Wanderers, which is a run of form that has seen them surrender their place in the top six.

That defeat for the Wanderers coupled with a 1-0 win at home to Central Coast Mariners enabled Roar to leapfrog Wanderers in the table.  The win at the Suncorp Stadium came courtesy of an early goal from the Brazilian, Henrique Silva. It stretched Roar’s unbeaten run to four games, during which time they’ve amassed 10 points to put themselves in the frame for the play-offs.

Home advantage hasn’t counted for much in the previous two meetings between these teams this season, with both resulting in 2-0 victories for the away team.  Goals from Massimo Maccarone and Ivan Franjić secured the points for Roar at the ANZ Stadium in early December, before Oriol Riera and Mark Bridge gained revenge for the Wanderers at the Suncorp Stadium a month later.

Wanderers are reasonably solid at home, losing just three of 11 this term.  However, Roar has won 18 of their 32 points on the road this season, losing just three of 11 games on their travels.

This is a game where, given the play-off situation, one side or the other will have to take a few chances at some point.  It could be relatively cagey early on, but more open as the game develops. That makes the odds of Evens (2.00) with Unibet on the 2nd Half being the Highest Scoring Half look worth a bet.
