Doomben 10,000 Betting Preview
May 21, 2013
We cast our eye over the leading fancies for this weekends big race, The Group One Doomben 10,000 ran over 1350 Meters taking place at Doomben Racecourse this Saturday.
Your Song triumphed in heavy conditions a fortnight ago in the BTC Cup, pulling away from Rain Affair in the final stages to take the race by five lengths. But firmer ground at Doomben Racecourse could be a concern for the 2.40 favourite and one or two others could be ready to pounce if Anthony Cummings’ charge fails to impress on the big occasion.
One such horse could be Rain Affair who chased Your Song home at Eagle Farm after failing to find that extra gear on the heavy ground and many punters will be willing to take a chance on those placings to be reversed at 6.50 with IAS Bet.
Between the two in the betting is Buffering at 4.00 who could also appreciate firmer conditions this time around and an easy win in the Coca-Cola Victory Stakes here last month suggests that Robert Heathcote’s charge could go well.
It may be surprise to many to see last year’s BTC Cup and Doomben 10,000 double winner Sea Siren so far down the betting at 13.00, but the four-year-old mare hasn’t had a head in front since landing the Manikato Stakes in the Spring and would need to bounce back in style here. Trainer John O’Shea has another entrant in Steps In Time who overcame an awful draw to get within a length of Appearance in the Coolmore Classic in March and is a viable each-way option for punters fancying the five-year-old to cope with the step up in class.
Better Than Ready was just behind Rain affair in The BTC Cup and can be backed at 12.00 while Epulaette has a bit to find on one or two of these on Randwick running and may be a bit short at 7.50, but Spirit of Boom could be overpriced out at 51.00 for anyone fancying a long-shot.
All eyes will be on Your Song to see if that fantastic BTC Cup Run can be replicated on harder ground and with a number of quality horses on display a thrilling race is anticipated.
