Buffering Bids For Second Winterbottom Win
November 09, 2015
Multiple Group 1 winner Buffering has been well supported in Winterbottom Stakes betting and will bid to become only the sixth horse to win the 1200m race twice.
Sportsbet have installed the 2013 winner as $6.00 favourite to join an exclusive club containing Ortensia, Hardrada, Belinda’s Star, La Trice and Asteroid as multiple Winterbottom Stakes winners after his tremendous showing in the Darley Classic. The eight-year-old won the Group 1 Moir Stakes when he resumed from an injury lay-off in early October before he finished fifth to Chautauqua in the Manikato Stakes and a half-length behind Delectation at Flemington.
Buffering set a strong pace and looked like going all the way before running out of steam late in the $1 million contest, but both jockey Damian Browne and trainer Robert Heathcote were stoked with the son of Mossman’s run.
“He’s racing with all of the enthusiasm and zest that he’s always had.” Said a delighted Heathcote, “A hundred out, he had them, but he’s just felt the pinch in the last little bit. We’ll definitely take him to Perth on that run.”
Buffering has a great chance on form, but it will be no easy task with last year’s Winterbottom Stakes winner Magnifisio standing in his way. Then there’s local hope Lucky Street that took out the Group 2 Karakkatta Plate in good style and Srikandi who had Rebel Dane Fast N Rocking and Buffering in behind at Moonee Valley before flopping in the Darley Classic and will be looking to bounce back at Ascot.
