AFL Grand Final Betting

afl grand final 2018

The AFL is one of the most physically demanding sporting leagues in the world.  The nature of Aussie Rules Footy means that the AFL teams have to cope with missing players through injury each and every week.

That keeps the physios busy but the coaches have to take a longer term view to do all they can to get their players to peak for the Finals Series and hopefully the AFL Grand Final.

How Do Teams Qualify for the AFL Grand Final?

The bulk of the AFL season is taken up by what’s known as the “home and away” season. After 23 round of fixtures, the top eight teams in the AFL ladder qualify for the Finals Series.

The Finals Series is seeded so that the top four teams need to win two matches to make it to the Grand Final while the teams who finish fifth to eighth must win all three of their Finals matches. The top two seeds also have the bonus of hosting their Finals matches.

The action begins with four Qualifying Finals. Top four teams who win progress straight to the Preliminary Finals but face a Semi-Final if they lose. Losing teams from outside the top four are eliminated while winners have to face a Semi-Final before a potential Preliminary Final.

The winners of the two Preliminary Finals, which are hosted by the highest ranked side, go on to contest the AFL Grand Final.

2018 AFL Grand Final Betting Tips

UPDATE: West Coast Eagles v Collingwood on Sat 29 Sep, at 2:30 Pm at Perth Stadium.

The Richmond Tigers were the first team to book their place in the Finals Series and therefore the bookies’ favourites to win the premiership.

The Tigers won the 2017 Grand Final by 48 points against Adelaide and have maintained some solid form throughout the home and away season so will get plenty of support in the betting at $2.45 with BetEasy (ex CrownBet).

We think Richmond is the team to beat but for an outside bet how about Port Adelaide at $21 with Bet365?

The Power had to bounce back from a crushing, controversial late defeat in Showdown 45 but that disappointment has only hardened their desire to end the season on a high. Port Adelaide’s strength comes in midfield and should they fire in that department they could spring a surprise by winning their second premiership.

Where and When is the 2018 AFL Grand Final?

Grand Finals weekend is one of the greatest traditions of Australian sport. Saturday sees the AFL Grand Final before the NRL Grand Final takes place on the Sunday.

As ever, this incredible weekend of sport takes place on the last weekend of September which means that the 2018 AFL Grand Final will be on Saturday 29th September.

Fans of every team in the Finals Series will make sure to keep that weekend free up whilst their team remains in with a shot of making the Grand Final. They all hope to be in Melbourne with a ticket to the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The MCG has hosted all but five AFL Grand Finals since it made its hosting debut in 1902 and has been signed up as the host until at least 2057.

2018 Grand Final Betting

The AFL Grand Final is always one of the most watched, talked about and bet on sporting events of the Australian sporting calendar.

You’ll find AFL Grand Final odds throughout the year. These prices in these markets are subject to some big swings all the way up to the first centre bounce at the MCG.

Many more markets get priced up almost as soon as the Grand Finalists are known. In addition to betting on the winner via the head-to-head market, you can bet on handicap markets, on the winner of individual quarters, on who will score the first goal and on which player will be awarded the Norm Smith Medal for the best performance during the match.

The Norm Smith Medal winner market is one of many that are offered in-play during the AFL Grand Final. The increase in in-play betting markets gives you the opportunity to profit from swings in momentum and to get involved in time specific markets as the match goes on.
